Contract No: 004279

UniGrids is an EU funded 6th framework Specific Targeted Research Project (STREP), funded for 2 years from July 2004. UniGridS is a follow-on project from GRIP (Grid Interoperability Project) which was funded for 2 years by the EU to realise the interoperability of Globus and UNICORE and to work towards standards for interoperability in the Global Grid Forum. GRIP had it's final review on the 6th February 2004, in Waraw Poland where the project was commended highly by the reviewers.

The Partners involved in UniGrids are:

  • Forschungszentrum Juelich GmbH, Germany
  • Consorzio Interuniversitario per il Calcolo Automatico dell’Italia Nord Orientale (CINECA), Italy
  • Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe, UK
  • University of Warsaw, Poland
  • Intel GmbH, Germany
  • The University of Manchester, UK
  • T-Systems SfR, Germany

The UniGrids project will develop a Grid Service infrastructure compliant with the Open Grid Service Architecture (OGSA). It is based on the UNICORE Grid software initially developed in the German UNICORE and UNICORE Plus projects.

One key success factor for Grid computing is accepted standards. UniGrids partners will contribute to the creation of these standards and strive to influence them based on their extensive experience with UNICORE and interoperability between UNICORE and Globus. The focus will be on the Open Grid Service Architecture (OGSA) in the Global Grid Forum (GGF) and the Web Service Resource Framework (WSRF) in OASIS.
